"Going thirty-eight Dan, chill the fuck out, mow your damn lawn and sit the hell down"

---

Back after giving myself a month away from Fedi.

I'll attempt to curate my experience much more, starting with this account and instance.
I want comfy things in my life - I don't need to be adding stress and angst from my online interactions. We can do better. We should do better. Including myself.

My interests cover #tech, #photography, #biking, #motorsport, #fountainpen, and other things I will no doubt need to add here when I remember.
I touch computers in my spare time and self host things. Oh yeah so #selfhosting I guess.
In my other spare time I renovate my house and do #DIY stuff.

Oh and I (used to?) play music. #Guitar I still have and sometimes play, #Saxophone I used to have a couple of decades ago, I had 6 months of Drum lessons, and played Bass for our school band in Rockquest in the late 90's.
I have never done anything that cool since.

Oh I live in New Zealand, Aotearoa.

@nigel @mike I named the bike Scooty Puff Jr, after that episode. This is the port side--and you can see Scooty Puff Sr (the doombringer) lurking in the background.

It reminds me of dozens of 80's clubbing nights when I was young.

This city is made of light 🎵🎹

@arch LMAO

I would totally do this.

"Read my blog for free, or pay $25/page for your AI to read it for you." This is praxis.

Enshittify the enshittification machine.

We should also throw ads in there, via a deliberate prompt injection. I would use that to make their AI bot spew paragraphs of the grossest kink content known to fandom.

It is as if the "old magic" has got lost in a sea of "cloud" and "node" and "react" and the like.

Putting files of text on a webserver, and hosting it, is so old fashioned, so ancient, that it is almost inconceivable.

Caves! Everyone loves caves. Did you know there is a huge network of caves under the Nullarbor? There is now but for how long? https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/picture/2025/jun/30/did-you-know-that-there-are-huge-caves-full-of-weirdy-bugs-and-ancient-life-right-under-the-nullarbor-desert

*Friends talking about subscribing to YouTube channels, online news, content creators, etc.*

Me: Oh, I typically don't subscribe in the traditional way. I use "RSS feeds" to keep me updated with online content.

Friend: What's RSS feeds?

Me: Take a set, my child. Now here is a story all about how, my life got flipped-turned upside down...

On the way to the hardware store yesterday, I was passed by this vintage truck driven by three young folk. I caught up at a traffic light, asked to take a photo, and had time for one question before the light changed for them. The vehicle is a 1968 vintage.

So duckduckgo has a 'no AI' version, at the link https://noai.duckduckgo.com/

I do wish they went for an opt-in so you could choose the ai version at something like 'ai-dot-duckduckgo'. But it's better than nothing.

Trees make patient subjects.

Especially when they stand alone. It’s then that one can see them as individuals - shaped by time, full of character. In forests, I struggle. I lose the tree in the crowd of trees. And it’s the same with people. When they gather in numbers, I lose sight of the human among all the humans.
