"Going thirty-eight Dan, chill the fuck out, mow your damn lawn and sit the hell down"

---

Back after giving myself a month away from Fedi.

I'll attempt to curate my experience much more, starting with this account and instance.
I want comfy things in my life - I don't need to be adding stress and angst from my online interactions. We can do better. We should do better. Including myself.

My interests cover #tech, #photography, #biking, #motorsport, #fountainpen, and other things I will no doubt need to add here when I remember.
I touch computers in my spare time and self host things. Oh yeah so #selfhosting I guess.
In my other spare time I renovate my house and do #DIY stuff.

Oh and I (used to?) play music. #Guitar I still have and sometimes play, #Saxophone I used to have a couple of decades ago, I had 6 months of Drum lessons, and played Bass for our school band in Rockquest in the late 90's.
I have never done anything that cool since.

Oh I live in New Zealand, Aotearoa.

I'm paying Google ~100 euros a month for their services and the privilege of publishing Conversations on the Play Store.

For a week now, I have been unable to release any updates because I'm still hoping to talk to someone at Google about their false accusation that I'm collecting users' email addresses, and any publication would reset my slot in the queue.

I like hard video games because it lets you live out the fantasy that if you overcome something challenging you’ll be rewarded

I came across refrakt yesterday, which seemed like a decent, minimalist, photo-sharing site but, sadly, I couldn't upload anything to it from my Android tablet. 🙃

Walking back from a gig tonight, I noticed lots of people in Castle Street taking pictures. So I turned around to see what they were photographing.

And this is what I saw.

at this point i think proton and mozilla should merge. they're so compatible! they both:
- abandoned fedi when the privacy and open source communities criticised them
- are more interested in chatbots than actually improving the products people use
- are continually trying to burn all the goodwill they've gained over the years

This week's business blog post explains why I make most of my resources (writing, open source software etc.) available for free. There are lots of reasons, but it boils down to low value payments across countries being a faff and I'm more likely to generate income from referrals / marketing (more people use my resources if they're free).

Of course, there is the risk that free resources aren't considered to have a value...

Local charmers as business owners

Another charming local.

There was a plain white home made ad taped to a telephone pole that said something like:

Need a website? $500
We're not mates, pay up or piss off.

I can't imagine who is the target market for a $500 website in 2025 is, but I'm keen to dig in to the unique selling point of "also, I fucking despise you"
