Back after giving myself a month away from Fedi.
I'll attempt to curate my experience much more, starting with this account and instance.
I want comfy things in my life - I don't need to be adding stress and angst from my online interactions. We can do better. We should do better. Including myself.
My interests cover #tech, #photography, #biking, #motorsport, #fountainpen, and other things I will no doubt need to add here when I remember.
I touch computers in my spare time and self host things. Oh yeah so #selfhosting I guess.
In my other spare time I renovate my house and do #DIY stuff.
Oh and I (used to?) play music. #Guitar I still have and sometimes play, #Saxophone I used to have a couple of decades ago, I had 6 months of Drum lessons, and played Bass for our school band in Rockquest in the late 90's.
I have never done anything that cool since.
Oh I live in New Zealand, Aotearoa.

Did anyone write a guide yet how to make self-hosted Ghost instances less dependent on external resources? This includes Stripe payment, the Mailgun requirement, but also external JS dependancies like JSdelivr etc.
Seems that even a fully self-hosted Ghost is still extremely entangled with cloud services that I certainly *don't* want to be entangled with.

clever_reports@mastodon.artWe report: the stars show up amidst the clouds like precious stones in a velvet jewellery case, a cracked geode. They twinkle and shift in colour with the wind, and we cannot see the constellations they belong to, but they seem important and special enough on their own.

Github is now a subsidiary of the MICROS~1 Spicy Autocomplete division, so I guess it's time to re-up my "LOL Github" I-told-you-so post from 2018, since in those intervening 7 years you have all learned nothing.
Anyway, good luck with that! I hope your migrations go really well.

1. Check standardebooks.org before Gutenberg. They clean up books from Gutenberg with sane typography and print design.
2. Consider buying a "Dover Thrift Editions" version of the ebook. Many fly-by-night ebook "publishers" are turning a quick buck on selling you a Gutenberg edition. Dover is a real publisher, even in print, and their well-formatted ebooks of public domain works are usually under $4, or even less.

Bing has slightly better results, but page two onwards becomes a mix of Vietnamese, Chinese and French about the live action? 🥴
