"Going thirty-eight Dan, chill the fuck out, mow your damn lawn and sit the hell down"

---

Back after giving myself a month away from Fedi.

I'll attempt to curate my experience much more, starting with this account and instance.
I want comfy things in my life - I don't need to be adding stress and angst from my online interactions. We can do better. We should do better. Including myself.

My interests cover #tech, #photography, #biking, #motorsport, #fountainpen, and other things I will no doubt need to add here when I remember.
I touch computers in my spare time and self host things. Oh yeah so #selfhosting I guess.
In my other spare time I renovate my house and do #DIY stuff.

Oh and I (used to?) play music. #Guitar I still have and sometimes play, #Saxophone I used to have a couple of decades ago, I had 6 months of Drum lessons, and played Bass for our school band in Rockquest in the late 90's.
I have never done anything that cool since.

Oh I live in New Zealand, Aotearoa.

They took all the trees, and put 'em in a tree museum

And charged the people a dollar and a half just to see 'em

My site, SFMemory, currently has over 9000 Historical images of San Francisco, the East Bay, and Northern California. I've done a lot, but I can always use help. Currently 245 images have the words "Unknown Location" I couldn't find them but maybe you can! https://sfmemory.org/UnknownLocation

@davidcs Interesting side note: reminds of this dude in Austria who proved that grocery stores were colluding on pricing back in 2023 at the height of "inflation" due to "supply chain disruption"

I love the idea of local governments having Fedi accounts. It sounds silly, but the idea of a bunch of local departments being able to get their messages out can actually be really useful. Think about how many municipal accounts post updates on Twitter to keep people informed about local events or developments.

The GOG website is overloading intermittently, but they're having a free ADULT game bundle in response to the payment processor censor-shit:

https://www.gog.com/redeem/freedomtobuygames

https://mastodon.social/@rootcompute/114954904755806394

These are the games:
- Leap of Love
- Being a DIK - Season 1
- Leap of Faith + Official Walkthrough
- House Party
- HuniePop
- Lust Theory - Season 1
- Treasure of Nadia
- Summer's Gone - Season 1
- Fetish Locator Week One
- Helping the Hotties
- Agony + Agony UNRATED
- Sapphire Safari
- POSTAL 2

I'm the guy whose gonna play Agony and Postal LOL...

It works for the USA, France, and Mexico. You may need a VPN if you can't see it.

Age Verification Doesn’t Need to Be a Privacy Footgun

"Won't someone think of the poor children?" they say, clutching their pearls as they enact another stupid law that will harm the privacy of every adult on Earth and create Prior Restraint that inhibits the freedom of speech in liberal democracies. Art: CMYKat If you're totally ignorant of how things work, the proposal of "verifying you're an adult" before you access adult content sounds, superficially, like a…

@joeress being able to create bad code without the use of AI is a matter of pride for some of me!

@jimsalter

I remember circa 2018 when Facebook started to not let you pause ads in videos.
It was right after I saw the Black Mirror episode where the guy is forced to watch a porno of his best friend that got drugged and coerced into becoming a drugged-zombie porn star.

I deleted my fb account about a month later. I had had it for a decade. Lost touch with tons of friends and everything.

Let it burn. 🔥__🔥

Getting old is my most recent reminder that God does not exist.

I am surrounded by wonderful people who have lived full and rich lives, filled with kindness and love for other humans. And I watch these wonderful people turn old and slowly lose their world. They fall ill, they struggle to maintain independence, or maybe start suffering from mental decline.

And it's terrible to observe. A lifetime of meaning crumbling away, piece by piece.

If there really was some form of divine design, why would such a god create humans to grow wise through their lifetime, only to eventually grow old and incapable over the course of years or decades? Why make people suffer so much at the very end of their lives? It's brutal.

I don't want some fairy tale about an afterlife and fluffy clouds. I want to accept reality and cherish the fleeting moment we have in this world. I just wish the people I care about, those wonderful kind souls, could enjoy the very best of this world forever. A lifetime is not long enough.

Look, it is only "AI" if it is a desperate play by VCs to squeeze out a return on their investment in an overcapitalized startup, otherwise it is just sparkling ML.
