I had an old Android phone sitting in the drawer and was able to install a free app to turn it into a remote webcam. Which then loads into Home Assistant and we can watch for pigeons, and even use motion detect if the pigeon problem is really serious.

To verify your Mastodon account, please post either about your pets, nature, public transport, a cool rock you found, what Linux distro you use (I use Arch BTW), your fursona, a beloved piece of retrocomputing, and/or a hot take about FOSS.

@jalefkowit when my wife is sad, she buys a sword... money can buy you swords.
Hi, friends.
I wrote an article on being a Mastodon moderator. I talk about the process, our mental health, the challenges of mutual aid, and more.
It leaves me a little vulnerable, but I think itās an important story to tell.
If you like it, boosts are welcomed. If you have questions, feel free to reach out.

I've been using OpenStreetMap regularly since going deGoogled Android several years back, and it's gotten pretty damn good this last year or so. Used to be that even with an address, it wouldn't be able to find where you wanted to go reliably. I made an account just to add places I needed to go when they were missing.
The two trips I've taken this month, this has only happened once.
POIs still aren't as good as the corpo players, but it's easy to search the address and plop it in.
It's worth a try if you haven't taken it for a spin lately!
Today I used a rotary tool for the first time. I cut Ćø5cm blank plastic christmas orbs into the shape I need for the eyes.
Honestly a bit scary. I'm surprised you don't have to keep pressing a button for it to run. I case you drop it it would then stop. No, you just switch it on and it keeps running. š³
I suspect that I will never find out about every batshit 19th century transport , because there are always more. Like this, for example, which is powered by five tonnes of caustic soda surrounded by water. Link to English-language Wikipedia article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soda_locomotive

When an #ADHD person says āI forgotā what we often mean is:
* I remembered 5 times but at the wrong time
* I fully planned to do it but I felt overwhelmed
* I shamed myself for not doing it that I did not do it
Edit: I wrote a neghty post about this and other ADHD symptoms and what causes them

I know that I need to get my life together. But I'm kinda waiting to see how quickly the world comes to an end before I consider putting in the effort.
A website getting hacked and losing 13,000 āverification photos and images of government IDsā in the same week the age verification nonsense comes into force for the #OnlineSafetyAct is fitting. Because thatās what we will see a whole lot more of⦠to protect the children.
Once more for those in the back:
The fact that LLMs can "solve" most common interview questions is damning of our interview processes, but not a sign that it can take our jobs.
