Back after giving myself a month away from Fedi.
I'll attempt to curate my experience much more, starting with this account and instance.
I want comfy things in my life - I don't need to be adding stress and angst from my online interactions. We can do better. We should do better. Including myself.
My interests cover #tech, #photography, #biking, #motorsport, #fountainpen, and other things I will no doubt need to add here when I remember.
I touch computers in my spare time and self host things. Oh yeah so #selfhosting I guess.
In my other spare time I renovate my house and do #DIY stuff.
Oh and I (used to?) play music. #Guitar I still have and sometimes play, #Saxophone I used to have a couple of decades ago, I had 6 months of Drum lessons, and played Bass for our school band in Rockquest in the late 90's.
I have never done anything that cool since.
Oh I live in New Zealand, Aotearoa.

What bothers me nowadays:
- #Ads now are always meant to be targeted, based on as much and as private data possible. #Marketeers and companies make us believe it’s either targeted ads or they can’t survive and offer their services. They ignore that there is another way. And they want us to believe there is none.
- That it appears to me that all companies now want to earn money with ads and/or collecting and selling data. Sometimes I would like them to focus on the product and not on how they can collect data. If my toaster only works with ads on the display or with a cloud account, I think it tells a story. If your oven only works with a #Captcha, I think it’s too far and too late. And don’t forget: The cost for ads has an impact on the price of the product.

Why don’t they document their datastream anywhere. What would be the reason not to? I can of course reverse engineer it (uh, just work it out…) but I shouldn’t have to. Maybe another dash/logger that interfaces with it has it written out somewhere

One of the traditional ways to celebrate is by sharing kai moana (seafood). This kōtare (sacred kingfisher) ain’t sharing though! Mānawatia a Matariki (happy Matariki).

@elaterite @Vulpy @shom @ewen light-table loads fine (I have it set to a smaller jpeg preview), it is when skipping to the next image while processing each one in darkroom view. I understand it has to apply all of the edits, but lightroom and C1 both load the next image instantly - which tells me they do something differently.

About
Having been on Fedi for some time (since 2017) and jumping across various platforms and taking some time off on occasion, I am back with an Akkoma instance. Quiescent Cafe is my comfy space; quiet and chill, a place to talk about interests and the good things in life.
Automatically included with the Akkoma sign-up is an XMPP account with Matrix gateway. See the Server Info below for more details.
Registering
Your account will need to be approved by an admin, so read the other guidelines and rules to ensure this is a suitable space before signing up.
Donations
To ensure this continues to exist, donations can be made to help cover the hosting and associated expenses like domain renewal and backups.
Either of the one off or recurring donation options are appreciated. It says swansinflight as it uses the same account as my photography.
Moderators and Bus-Factor
At the moment this is just me. If it grows beyond more than several users, Moderators will chosen from the member base. If I get hit by a bus or otherwise disappear, this will keep running for approximately a month until hosting isn't paid, realistically more than a month as I keep the account in credit. My wife will have all the details to log in and inform local users of their options, whether that is taking over the server or migrating to another instance.

- Treat others as you would have them treat you.
If I have to elaborate more than this, or boundaries are attempted to be pushed, then this is not the place for you. Anyone signing up here should be an adult, and capable of making adult decisions. If I have to make a decision, then my decision is final. This server is not a democracy.
Server Info
Akkoma
This Akkoma instance is hosted on Linode in Australia. At the moment it is on a small VPS, but based on donation viability I am more than happy to scale it up as required.
XMPP
A Prosody instance is running on the same server.
Previously it authenticated against Akkoma, and I would like to get that working again since changing back from ejabberd to Prosody. But in the mean time simply request and I will create an xmpp account for you. There is no web client associated, you will need to install an app. I recommend Gajim for Linux and Windows, and Monocles Chat or Conversations on Android. iOS seems a bit hit and miss, but have heard Monal is okay. There a plenty of other options, but I have found these the most solid.
